[Talk Like a Pirate Day]

It's September 19th, that wonderful time of year when us nerdy-types celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

A long time ago (June 6th, 1995 to be exact), John Baur and Mark Summers conceived the idea of a holiday to talk like a pirate after seeing the effects of trash-talking in pirate lingo during a racquetball game. They couldn't very well use June 6th as the holiday, seeing as it conflicted with D-Day. Fortunately, Mark was able to remember his ex-wife's birthday - September 19th. Thus, a phenomenom was born. Fortunately for us, Dave Barry was also choosen without his knowledge to be the perfect spokesman. He later wrote of the international holiday in his nationally syndicated column. And from that day, it has been celebrated ever since.

Perhaps the reason this holiday is so fantastic is because its a chance to be silly. A change of pace from the doldrums of everyday meetings and TPS reports.

The sheer genius and amusement to be had with his is immeasureable. So be sure to greet your mates with a hearty "ahoy!" and don't forget to raise your Jolly Roger.
